Bird Aviaries Ca
Posted in Uncategorized | Comments OffCan different ringneck species be bred?
I have a green/yellow Abyssinian ringneck male(Psittacula krameri parvirostris), and yellow indian ringneck female (Psittacula krameri manillensis). What are the odds of them successfully matting, and most of the chicks living to adulthood?
btw i dont want to breed for profit. Family and neighbors all want ringnecks but don’t like the ones in petshops because they’re aggresive, pulling feathers, and extremely overpriced ($250+) and adoption is expensive and a hassle. The only adoption place with ringnecks within 60 miles is in West Los Angeles, CA. (near the federal building). After being approved they want the adopter to adopt all of their ringnecks (6) and take them to the vet every month (~$50 per bird every visit) not to mention how difficult it is to find an aviary vet.
I’m not a bird breeder, but your birds are of the same species. They differ at the subspecific level, essentially they’re just varieties of the same species. I would expect no difficulties in breeding them beyond what is normally encountered in breeding other parrot species.
